In the beginning moving pictures were made using cameras turned by hand. Eventually the professionals adopted drive motors, usually electric. But for the amateur, and the mobile professional there was the clockwork motor.

Clockwork movies can be made without an electrical power source being available. So far a clockwork camcorder has yet to be made. No doubt Mr Bayliss has had a go, but I suspect the power requirements are more than the average wrist can yet produce.

If there is a professional use of clockwork cameras today I do not know what it is. But for the amateur it makes life interesting. It is even possible to buy a new Super8 clockwork camera made somewhere in the former USSR. I now have one of these cameras and hope to demostrate its capabilities on this site.
